Kankabchen Forest Restoration Project

The project consists of restoring and maintaining the forest cover of the Kankabchen ejido to help reduce greenhouse gases and thus mitigate climate change. It also seeks to generate economic benefits for community members through the sale of carbon credits.
Environmental Impacts
This project will reduce around 130,000 tons of CO2e.
Endangered emblematic bird species such as the toucan and various types of parrots, among many other flora and fauna species, will be protected.

Social Impacts
Approximately 14,000 carbon credits will be generated, which will allow the community, 93% of which is made up of people who identify themselves as indigenous, to increase their income.
We will seek to strengthen productive activities, both subsistence and commercial, by investing in infrastructure and incorporating more sustainable methods.
The participation of women and young people will be promoted, in addition to promoting employment within the community to reduce migration, strengthening the social fabric.
In addition, we will seek to promote and revalue the historical and cultural heritage of the community.
