Laguna Guerrero Forest Restoration Project
This project consists of the restoration of the forest landscape in the Ejido of Laguna Guerrero. Its objective is the restoration of 6,138 hectares of forest, thus contributing to the diversification of the livelihoods of the ejido's inhabitants through the commercialization of forest carbon credits, as well as contributing to the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions through the ejido's participation in the voluntary carbon market.
Environmental Impacts
In addition to removing greenhouse gases from the atmosphere, this project will seek to protect the environment:
Amphibians such as the Leopard Frog (Lithobates berlandieri), Tree Frog (Scinax staufferi), Mexican Tree Frog (Smilisca baudini), Milky Tree Frog (Trachycephalus typhonius), and the Helmeted Tree Frog (Triprion petasatus), all under special protection status.
Reptiles such as the endangered parakeet snake (leptophis mexicanus) and the endangered boa (boa imperator), as well as the protected species scorpion tortoise (kinosternon scorpioides) and the coral snake (micrurus diastema).
Birds such as the dirty-chested parakeet (eupsittula nana) and the white-fronted parrot (amazona albifrons) are protected, in addition to the endangered canoe-billed toucan (Ramphastos sulfuratus).

Social Impacts
It is estimated that the project will generate approximately 14,000 carbon credits, which will allow the Ejido Laguna Guerrero -with a population of 720 people- to diversify its income through participation in the voluntary carbon market.
The project seeks to strengthen the local economy through plant production and reforestation, among other activities. These actions not only increase the environmental value of the territory, but also open up opportunities for temporary employment and technical training, particularly benefiting women and young people.
Finally, the rescue of local biocultural knowledge will be promoted through the use of native species and community plant production, revaluing the link between the community and its forest, and strengthening its identity and cultural legacy.
